Hello Fellow Lightning Sailors,
2016 has been a great season in the southeastern District so far, we’re now just past the halfway point with six of the 11 district series regattas sailed. We’ve also had very nice fleets at three of the four Charleston open regattas with very competitive racing across the board. A total of 42 different boats have sailed in district regattas with a fantastic turnout of 47 boats at the Atlantic Coast Championships. Many thanks to John Sawyer and the crew from CYC in Wilmington for running a terrific event.
At this point in the season, Peter Hogan is in first place, Eli Putnam is in second and Eric Oetgen is in third. Of course there is plenty more racing to go so a lot of boats still have a shot at the top spot. The North Americans will be here shortly, and as most of you already know, the NAs will be in our district next year at Wrightsville Beach. The next regatta is in Augusta in September, please check the schedule at http://southeasternlightning.org/calendar/ and join us for an upcoming event.
The Lightning continues to offer great racing with great people in a family-friendly environment. Please voice your thoughts about how we can improve the Lightning experience and help increase our turnout.
Thanks. We hope to see you on the water soon.
Will Sloger, SELD Commodore
